Loan Periods

After 1 week, items are subject to recall notice (2 week loan period guaranteed)
  • Maximum 4 renewals
  • No Fines
  • Recalls: Library account is blocked after 1 day over the recall due date
  • At 31 days overdue, you will receive a lost item notice ($150/item). This blocks your account
University of Alberta Course Materials and Multimedia TechnologyNo Loan
  • Lost Item Charge: $150/item. Higher charges may be assessed based on cost
  • Discretionary fine (for breach of regulations, abuse of privileges, etc): $50
  • Please contact us via the Account Inquiry form for information about your account or if you feel your fine is not valid
  • Renew material online at My Account or by contacting us: Ask Us!
  • Number of items that you can borrow: 30
  • Holds are possible on physical items held at any University of Alberta or NEOS Library (some exceptions may apply)

Recalls

  • If requested by others, your borrowed items will be recalled
  • Check your email for a "Recall Notice" with revised due date
  • You have 7 days to return the recalled item(s)
  • Recall notices are not sent for items that are already overdue

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges

The University of Alberta Library suspends your borrowing privileges when:

  • Bills/accruing fines = $50 or more
  • Items overdue for 31 days or more are marked as lost and charged $150/item
  • Recalled material not returned by recall due date

How to Pay Fines

  • Online via My Account
  • InfoLink: Cash or ONEcard payment can be made in-person at all InfoLink locations. Credit or debit card payment is also available at the InfoLink ONEcard Service Centre (9104 HUB mall) and Student Life Central (0-81 SUB). Please refer to the InfoLink website for their hours of operation.
  • By Mail: Cheques should be made payable to University of Alberta Library; include your ONEcard barcode number or Student ID number on the back of the cheque. If your cheque does not already include your current address and telephone number, include this information on the cheque as well. Mail cheque to:

NEOS Cards

Those affiliated with a NEOS member library, may borrow materials from the University of Alberta Library collection using a library card issued by their home library.

To keep track of your library materials, holds, and fines, please use My Account.


Access to University of Alberta Library Online Resources

NEOS visitors to U of A Library may access library licensed online resources on-site only, however you should have access to the resources provided by your home library using your home library login at their website.

To access U of A Library's online resources, visit a library service desk to obtain a temporary (daily) Library Network Access ID. You will be asked to present your photo ID (eg. driver's license) or your NEOS member library card.


Library Privileges & Responsibilities

Use of the University of Alberta Library is a privilege with associated responsibilities for all clients. Within the parameters of the policies, no user should be unduly disadvantaged through the use or abuse of the library by another client, whatever the client group.
