Place Hold

A hold is an online request to have an item delivered to the library location of your choice. Place a hold for items that are located at a library location that is inconvenient for you to get to (eg. RCRF) or for items that are currently "checked out" to another person. To place a hold follow these steps:

  • Click the place hold button button
  • Login with CCID or barcode + PIN
  • Select your prefered library pickup location
  • Wait for the email notification indicating your items are ready for pickup

Recalls

  • If requested by others, your borrowed items will be recalled
  • Check your email for a "Recall Notice" with a revised due date
  • You have 7 days to return the recalled item(s)
  • Recall notices are not sent for items that are already overdue
  • Please plan for out-of-town stays by returning items that might be recalled before you leave

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges

The University of Alberta Library suspends your borrowing privileges when:

  • Bills/accruing fines = $50 or more
  • Items overdue for 31 days or more are marked as lost and charged $150/item
  • Recalled material not returned by recall due date

Student Account Blocked (Bear Tracks, etc.)

If you have outstanding library fees, a block may be placed on your student account (encumbrance). This will result in the following restrictions:

  • loss of access to library borrowing and other library services
  • loss of access to enrolment records, examination results and academic transcripts
  • the inability to graduate until the outstanding debt is cleared

When you pay your fine in full, the block will be lifted in approximately 90 minutes.
