Get Certified
COMPLETE ALL REQUIREMENTS
All users must be certified to use each piece of equipment in the DSC Makerspace.
To ensure users know the basics on how to safely and effectively use our equipment, they must complete all educational modules and demonstration sessions as per the requiprements of each individual tool:
- Each certification module is available in eClass; users can click on the tool below, log into eClass with your CCID, and self-enroll in the module. The certification module should appear in your eClass for you to complete at your leisure.
Users must achieve a grade of 100% on the final quiz to complete the module; multiple attempts are allowed.
- Upon successful completion of the certification module, users will need to book a certification practice session with DSC staff.
- This allows users to demonstrate their knowledge of the equipment and provide an opportunity to ask staff any operational questions about the tool.
COMPLETE
CERTIFICATION MODULES TO USE TOOLS + STUDIO
CERTIFY ON: ULTIMAKER 3D FDM PRINTERS
The Ultimaker printers use heated plastic to build a model slowly over many layers. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is a relatively easy and quick way to create light models for prototyping, art, design and more.
CERTIFY ON: FORMLABS 2 RESIN PRINTER
Resin printers use an UV light to harden layer upon layer to create a solid and very detailed model. Prints on the Form labs are dense and durable but require more work (washing, curing).
CERTIFY ON: FABOOL LASER CUTTER
The Fabool Laser Mini uses a small laser to cut and permanently engrave materials up to 2mm in thickness, including paper, all weights of cardboard, leather, chipboard and light balsa wood. It does not cut plastic or metal.
CERTIFY ON: CRICUT
The Cricut Maker machine is a computer-assisted cutting machine that can cut, score, draw, emboss and perforate paper, all weights of cardboard, fabric, vinyl, leather, chipboard and even light wood. It does not cut heavy plastic or metal.
It is ideal for cutting precise pieces of a project that cannot easily be cut by hand.
CERTIFY ON: HEAT PRESS
The Heat Press can used to adhere heat press vinyl, cut on the Cricut, to textiles such as T-shirts and bags.
NOTE: The heat press orientation does not require
a practice session with staff, but ensure you are certified to use the Cricut.
COMPLETE ORIENTATION ON: MEDIA STUDIO
The DSC Media Studio is intended for the creation of video and photography projects.
BOOK A CERTIFICATION PRACTICE SESSION WITH DSC STAFF
This allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of the equipment and also provides an opportunity to ask DSC Staff any operational questions about the tool.
WHEN BOOKING YOUR CERTIFICATION SESSION, ENSURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT MAKERSPACE TOOL ON WHICH TO CERTIFY.
