Rutherford North Building:

  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING: From HUB Mall - take elevator at entrance 9002 to ground level. Rutherford Library east entrance is directly across the path.
  • ELEVATORS: immediately to the left as you enter the Library. Access to Levels 1 through 5
  • LOW HEIGHT SERVICE DESK: All three service desk stations inside library entrance
  • ACCESSIBLE WASHROOMS: To the right as you exit the elevator on Levels 1 through 5. All have automatic doors with push plate control, and accessible stalls.
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT WORK TABLES: One table to the right as you enter the library on Level 1.
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT STUDY CARRELS: Two in the group of study carrels adjacent to the HSS service desk on Level 1
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT CHECKOUT KIOSK: Directly across from the service desk on Level 1
  • LOW HEIGHT WATER FOUNTAINS: on the wall behind the printing press exhibit in the Galleria area between Rutherford North and Rutherford South

  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING: Entrance via ramp from Galleria
  • ELEVATORS: at rear, and to the right. Follow signage. Access to Level 2

Bruce Peel Special Collections (BPSC)

Basement Level, Rutherford South

  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING OR LIBRARY: Entrance to Rutherford South building via ramp from Galleria.
  • ELEVATORS: to right at rear of lobby area. Special wheelchair access only. Follow signage. Take elevator to basement level, turn right, and ring doorbell for access.

Law Library

  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING: at entrance on northeast corner
  • ELEVATORS: Elevator just inside building entrance to the right provides access to Library entrance on Level 2. Elevator inside the Library provides only access to Library Level 3.
  • LOW HEIGHT SERVICE DESK: Yes, as part of main service desk
  • ACCESSIBLE WASHROOMS: on Level 1 of building, outside of the Library. Men's to the right of northeast entrance, women's to the left
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT WORK TABLES: on Level 2: to the right of the library entrance, across from service desk; Level 3: two in quiet study area near stairwell number 4
  • OTHER: The McLean Reading Room on Level 3 (open to Law Students only) has push-plate opening

Scott

Health Sciences Library

  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING OR LIBRARY: N/A. Access to library is via 2nd floor of UofA Hospital, Medical Sciences Building, or Heritage Medical Centre.
  • ELEVATORS: At the end of the corridor beside the Library Service Desk, with stops on all 3 Levels of the library.
  • LOW HEIGHT SERVICE DESK: to the right inside the Library entrance
  • ACCESSIBLE WASHROOMS: Accessible cubicles in washrooms on each floor, near the elevator; washroom doors do not have a push plate automatic door. Other accessible washrooms outside library - located to the left when exiting library.
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT WORK TABLES: Three height adjustable standing desks near the Service Desk on Level 2 (Entrance level)
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT CARRELS: Two height-adjustable study carrels on Level 1A, to the left of the book stacks once you exit the elevator
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT SELF-CHECKOUT KIOSKS: Across from the service desk on Level 2 (Entrance level)
  • LOW HEIGHT WATER FOUNTAINS: On each level.

Bibliotheque Saint-Jean (BSJ)

Campus Saint-Jean

  • DESIGNATED ACCESSIBLE PARKING: 2 spots in paid parking lot. Closest is next to parking ticket dispenser, ~10m from main building entrance. Drop-off area at main entrance is spacious and level
  • ELEVATOR AND RAMP ACCESS TO LIBRARY: Building elevator is directly across from main building doors. Take elevator to lower level and exit to the left. Proceed down hallway ~30m past the Library entrance. Turn left and go to end of the hallway. Turn right and proceed down ramp ~10m. Designated accessible entrance is on the right. Press doorbell for access and Library staff will remotely unlock the door. To exit library, ask service desk staff to unlock door
  • EMERGENCY EXIT: The accessible entrance to the Library CANNOT BE USED AS AN EMERGENCY EXIT. In the event of an emergency, there is an accessible exit through the doors to the staff offices
  • ACCESSIBLE WASHROOMS: Closest accessible washrooms are in the building, outside of the Library. Exit library through wheelchair entrance (request assistance at service desk), go up the ramp - washrooms are on upper level, parallel to ramp. Accessible stall in men's and women's - manual door
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT WORK TABLES: 1 in Collection pédagogique/Curriculum collection area, immediately to the left; 1 in Salle d'étude silencieuse, at left corner of the room.

St. Joseph's College Library

Basement Level, St. Joseph's College

  • THIS LIBRARY IS INACCESSIBLE BY WHEELCHAIR: The Library is located in the basement of a building with no elevator access. Materials from this Library can be requested through the catalog for pickup at another UofA Library locations
  • OTHER: Low-stimulation environment in terms of visual distractions and noise level. Carpeted flooring, individual study desks, low-glare furnishings (primarily wood). Combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting



Augustana Library

Augustana Campus

  • DESIGNATED ACCESSIBLE PARKING: Visitor parking is available in the Visitor Parking area in the K. Glen Johnson Faith and Life Parking Lot. There are four designated wheelchair parking spots near the entrance to the Faith and Life Centre. Indoor access to the library from Visitor Parking is through the Faith and Life Centre into the Forum where the library is .
  • RAMP ACCESS TO BUILDING OR LIBRARY: At the door entrance to Faith and Life Centre are automatic push buttons that users need to press. In addition to the Faith and Life Centre entrance, there is wheelchair access from outside on the south side of the Forum building. The double set of doors have an automatic push plate that users need to press. There is a wheelchair ramp leading from the doors to near the library entrance. The first part of the ramp has large mats as a non-slip surface.
  • ELEVATORS: There is an elevator at the rear left of the library. It is wheelchair accessible. The elevator accesses the lower basement level (the main stacks and study areas) and the second floor Learning Commons and Classroom area.
  • LOW HEIGHT SERVICE DESK: The service desk is at the library's main entrance on the main floor. There are three stations there, and one of them is a wheelchair height service desk.
  • ACCESSIBLE WASHROOMS: There are women's and men's washrooms on the main floor of the library (behind the glass wall to the right when entering the library), and on the basement level (at the back left near the laptop bar). The washrooms are wheelchair accessible with privacy entrance (no physical door). They all have push button soap dispensors and automatic hand dryers. The main floor washroom additionally has a paper hand towel dispensor.
  • ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT WORK TABLES: Two adjustable height work tables on the main floor (can be used with laptops) at the back of the library along east wall facing the ravine (near the elevator). They are both table style; one has a manual lever to adjust height and the other is electric push button.
  • OVERSIZED, WALL-MOUNTED MONITORS: Two bookable group rooms with 55 inch Kramer screens with wireless connectivity (CCID login needed). One room (Presentation Practice Room) is on the library's main floor in the far right corner. The other room (Group Room F) is on the lower basement floor along east wall facing the ravine. Capacity of each room is 12 people and can be booked for 2 hours.
  • LOW HEIGHT WATER FOUNTAINS OR WATER BOTTLE DISPENSERS: Two water fountains at wheelchair height beside washrooms on main floor. There are push buttons to operate. Each fountain has an integrated water dispenser for water bottles.
  • AREAS INACCESSIBLE BY WHEELCHAIR: The 24 hour study space does not have automatic doors and does not have easy door opening access when the library is closed.
