Winspear Library Closure FAQs

Library Service

  1. Will we still have access to our librarians?

Yes, Business librarians will be available in their offices in Cameron Library. They will continue to meet faculty and students in classes and in person. During COVID times, they are available remotely. There are other librarians and staff in their team who have experience, are being trained in Business and are keen to work with the Faculty. Your Business Librarians are:

    • Janet Williamson
    • Patti Sherbaniuk
    • Celine Gareau- Brennan
  2. Will librarians come to the School of Business to deliver in-class teaching and classroom orientation?

Yes, and they are looking forward to continuing this work together.

  3. Will there be consultation with students, faculty and staff regarding how the library will meet the needs of students?

The Library will reach out to student groups to engage with them about how we can meet their needs.

Physical Space Concerns

  1. Will the collection be accessible for those with mobility concerns?

    • Cameron Library information
    • Rutherford Library information
  2. Will students have realistic access to group rooms and study space after the closure of the space?

The Library continues to monitor and ensure that a wide variety of spaces are available for students, including rooms for group work and study.

  3. Will there be enough computers available for students?

The Library is working with IST to ensure that levels of computer access are sufficient to meet demand.

  4. What will happen to the existing space?

The space falls under the responsibility of the Alberta School of Business. As always, the Library will provide feedback to the School and F&O of what we hear from students, faculty, and other users.

For Faculty

  1. Will Cameron Library be able to handle the influx of students from Business and provide hands-on workshops?

Yes, we have space in the Cameron Library. Librarians will also continue to go to the School of Business to deliver required instruction in classes. Librarians also deliver hands-on sessions in multiple library and IST lab locations and remotely and this will continue.

  2. How can we share our concerns to library staff?

    Please email us at library@ualberta.ca

Collections

  1. Will there still be access to the collection that was at Winspear Library?

Yes, the physical collection remains accessible regardless of location. Course materials (formerly reserves) and high use materials will be relocated to Cameron Library. During the COVID 19 pandemic, print course materials in Cameron library will not be available. Many of these materials will be available online.

  2. What about Bloomberg and Datastream?

Bloomberg will be accessible for Business students please contact the Alberta School of Business when the University is open.

Datastream is currently inaccessible for student and non-Business faculty use.
